OPI Nails Names Cynthia Erivo as Global Brand Ambassador
OPI is excited to announce its newest Global Brand Ambassador, Cynthia Erivo. A Grammy, Emmy and Tony award-winning and Oscar-nominated actress, singer, songwriter and producer, Erivo stars as Elphaba in the Jon M. Chu and Universal upcoming cinematic event Wicked, for which OPI is the exclusive global nail partner. In her role as OPI Global Brand Ambassador, Erivo will continue to showcase nails as a vehicle for aesthetic expression, sharing her own personal narrative through creative nail art looks while incorporating shades from the upcoming OPI x Wicked collection, launching 13th September, 2024. Universal Pictures’ Wicked arrives in cinemas 22nd November.
In Erivo’s starring role of Elphaba, the character’s nails play an integral part of Elphaba’s character development, starting with natural green nails as an extension of her distinct skin colour, and progressing to longer nails and dynamic nail art as she develops her sense of self. Erivo’s character inspired many of the shades in the OPI x Wicked collection. Off the Wicked set, Erivo is known for expressing herself through her long nails and beautifully embellished, detailed nail art, making her a natural OPI partner. Recent nail looks include a maximalist French manicure for the Met Gala featuring OPI GelColor in Bubble Bath and OPI GelColor in Midnight Snacc paired with plants, petals, and shiny beetles encapsulated in acrylic nails, as well as a 3-D floral manicure for the Tony Awards featuring a variety of bright pink and green OPI GelColor hues, including $elf Made, Taurus-t Me, and Without a Pout.
“Nail art offers a lovely way to express what I’m feeling, at any particular moment in time,” explains Erivo. “It’s an extension of the story I want to tell and an extension of who I am. With length, or colour, or design, you can show people a little bit of who you are.”
“There’s also something really fun about being able to catch someone’s eye with nails,” Erivo adds. “Nail art is so expressive. You can keep your nails very simple, or you can make them very extravagant, very fun, very crazy. You can pierce them, you can put jewels on them—the scope of what you can do with nails has always interested me, and I’m excited to share my inspirations and favourite nail looks with OPI fans around the world.”
OPI x Wicked shades inspired by Erivo’s character Elphaba include: Ozitively Elphaba, a green with gold pearlescence, and Witch O’Clock, a dark olive green crème, available in Nail Lacquer and new, exclusive GelColor featuring OPI Intelli-Gel Technology™ formulas. OPI’m Phosphorescent!, a glow-in-the-dark green, is available in Infinite Shine. New limited edition xPRESS/ON press-on styles include one of Elphaba’s looks straight from the film—Know Your Power, a green and black set with glow-in-the-dark peek-a-boo colour under the nails.
“Cynthia is an absolute force, and OPI is so excited to partner with her,” remarks OPI Co-Founder and Brand Ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. “Nail colour and nail art offers an amazing way to showcase your personality in a way that’s joyful and unique to each individual user. Cynthia embodies this sentiment with showstopping nail art that gives all of us a snapshot of her creativity, confidence, and sense of fun.”
“For over 20 years, OPI has partnered with some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and has been part of many iconic film moments,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “I am a huge fan of Wicked personally and can’t wait for OPI to introduce its exciting limited-edition collection, in collaboration with Universal Pictures, with the world.”
