Top Hacks When Applying Blush
Sometimes blush isn’t for the feint of hearted… or that’s at least what we’ve seen with some of the beauty hack trends sweeping Tik Tok that are inspiring innovative ways to applying blush.
The face-lifting hack:
The face-lifting blush hack that went viral a couple of months back is our tried-and-tested favorite beauty hack, quite possibly of all time. Firstly, it’s actually not that gimmicky (unlike many TikTok beauty hacks). Secondly, it works, and finally it works in real life - not just with a face full of make-up and an Instagram filter. The idea is that you contour, blush and conceal much higher than you usually would. The result? An instant face lift and Mossy-style cheekbones. To nail this effect use the blush slightly higher up than the apples of your cheeks - in fact, take it just as high as the base of your eye socket (yes, the same place you would usually apply highlighter). This high placement will make the apples of your cheeks appear higher - and therefore more lifted. Traditionally this hack doesn’t use highlighter, just concealer to lift and highlight the under eye area, but you can boost the impact by adding a little of the highlighter super high above your cheekbones, where the eye sockets end.

Ok, disclaimer: this one really isn’t for everyone. The idea is that you apply a deep rosy red to your forehead, nose and cheekbones, BEFORE applying the rest of your base (foundation, concealer and maybe a little bronzer). Oh, and did we mention that the original version uses a red Huda Beauty LIPSTICK as the blusher? You can see already why this isn’t for everyone, but the theory behind it is that it imparts a more natural flushed appearance to the skin. On some it does impart that wholesome windswept rosy glow, but on others it can leave the skin looking decidedly burnt lobster. You decide which camp you fall into.
The sun-kissed effect hack:
Instead of using blusher on the apples of cheeks, TikTok users have gone wild for using it to add a sunkissed glow, in the same way you would with bronzer. To try adding a post-Balearic glow to your face by dusting your blush it all the way across the bridge of your nose and right at the center of the forehead, as well as across your cheeks. It oddly looks more natural than using bronzer in this way - plus as a bonus it really makes your eyes pop and stand out too.
